Vision and Mission Statements
When a faux painter calls us with business woes, our first
question is always the same, “have you
written your vision and mission statements?” Usually,
the answer is no. And then they follow-up with a question
of their own. “Why do I need that,” they
ask. “I work by myself!” And then we explain
that shooting an arrow blindly, makes for a hungry family;
while a well aimed arrow brings home
the bacon. You have to aim your arrow to be successful. Let
me repeat...
You have to know where you are going in order
to get there.
And the secret to knowing is to. . .
WRITE IT DOWN!
Your VISION STATEMENT
To be successful in business, it is essential
to write down your vision of what your company will look
like when it is “finished”. In other words,
when your company is as successful as you envision it,
what will it look like? Your vision statement should be
something that is not within your grasp at the moment but
something attainable that you can venture toward. You will
probably not be able to write your company’s vision
statement at one sitting. It takes time, thought, consideration
and discipline to evaluate your goals and state them in
one concise, definable statement. Your vision statement
is your dream. |
Your MISSION STATEMENT
Writing down your company’s mission is the best possible starting point
for attaining your vision. Your mission statement should encapsulate your relationship
with everyone with whom your business comes into contact: yourself, peers,
employees, customers and vendors. Your mission statement is your roadmap to
your dream (vision).
It is not enough to write your mission and vision. You
must incorporate it into your daily business. Commit
it to memory and take every opportunity to share
it with those with whom you come into contact. A
vision and mission sitting on a shelf is no vision
and mission. It must become the lifeblood of your
company. |
Not only do you have to employ but the Vision and Mission Statement in your everyday life you need to invest in yourself and your business.
If you don't invest in yourself then who will?
It is important for you as a business owner to keep your goals in mind each and every day.
Business practices are sometimes one of the first things that we let go when we are faced with too much work. You must make sure that your propects now that this is not a hobby for you but a profession that you take very seriously. There is only one way to make that impression and that is from the moment your come in contact with your prosect your are nothing but professional.
Think about the way you must look to your future customer from every aspect. Think about what would make you do business with you. Some times the smallest of things can make the biggest impression.
